Whisky Cortoisie

Cortoisie French elegance

The name of this resolutely French brand is a noun, derived from the adjective Courtois created in the 12th century.

In Old French, it refers first to "nobility" and its art of living, then to moral elegance. This elegance in fact translates into measure, balance and poise.

It's on these subtle values that we've built our range of Single Malt whisky from France.

The story of our Whisky Cortoisie begins in 2016...

Distilled in Lorraine, France, Cortoisie boasts a peat index of 35 PPM*.

The peat used comes from northern Germany (it is forbidden to exploit peat bogs in France).
The malted barley is then distilled in a Charentais-type still.

The first distillation produces alcohol at 28-30°, and the second distillation produces alcohol at 69° (the heating heart). The reduction of theBrandy to bring Whisky Cortoisie to its marketable degree (43°) takes at least 3 years, so that the whisky and water molecules can assemble and recreate a molecular chain.

Our eaux de vies are aged in our cellars in Burgundy for whiskies over 5 years old, and in Charente for younger whiskies. We use 400-liter casks. Our casks are 80% French oak, of which 1/3 are new. The remaining 20% is new American oak.

EXHALATION, the first Opus of the Cortoisie brand, evokes the emanation of a palette of aromas that express themselves with elegance in an organoleptic symphony.

Cuvée Exhalation expresses itself through the full-bodied, elegant alcohol produced by aging in French oak barrels, while American oak brings out fruitier aromas. The peat index of 35 PPM* makes it a rarity among peated French whiskies.

Cortoisie embodies French elegance.
