Gin

Gin is a spirit drink obtained by flavoring ethyl alcohol with juniper berries1 , like juniper berries. Gin production begins with the alcoholic fermentation of a malt (barley, rye, corn, etc.). It is quite similar to its ancestor, juniper, which is a traditional drink in all the former Netherlands (Holland and part of present-day Belgium).

Gin production began in the Spanish Netherlands at the end of the 17th century, and then went international. The flavor of ordinary gin is that of a very dry spirit, so it is rarely drunk neat. It's mainly used in cocktails, when it's not already on the market in a flavored version. In the past, the gin used on Royal Navy warships had an alcohol content of almost 50°, which preserved the explosive properties of the gunpowder should it accidentally come into contact with the drink (storage in the bunker). This gin can still be found in some distilleries, such as Plymouth, under the name "Marine Gin".
