The history of cigars Oliva

When it comes to cigars, Nicaragua never ceases to surprise with its know-how and dynamism. With the Oliva family, our selection has expanded to include puros with authentic blends.

The Oliva family is of Cuban origin, with a history dating back to 1866, when Melanio Oliva began growing tobacco in Pinar Del Rio, the famous tobacco valley.

The tumultuous history of Cuba and Nicaragua is intimately linked to the history of the Oliva family, who had to start all over again several times before achieving the notoriety they have today. The company's success is due to the courage and determination of Gilberto Oliva , who at the age of 84 looks back on a life well lived. The family had distinguished itself in tobacco growing for several generations, and it was under the impetus of Gilberto's third son, José, that they inaugurated their factory in 1997. The quality of the tobaccos they grew and the cigars they produced brought them almost immediate success.

Today no less than eighteen million cigars leave their factory every year. 2017 was a year of great change. Firstly, the great loss of patriarch Gilberto, who passed away on December 18. Finally, the Oliva family was bought out by the Vandermaliere family, already owners of the well-known J. Cortès mechanical cigar brand, which we also represent.

A seamless transition for the members of the Oliva family, who remain present in all the growing and manufacturing processes, and a big step for the Vandermaliere family, who embrace the cigar industry "totalmente a mano". So it's not without pride that our little Belgium can boast of being at the helm of one of Nicaragua's finest cigar brands!

Oliva Connecticut Reserve cigars are blended from select Nicaraguan tripe and sub-capes, finished with only the finest golden Ecuadorian Connecticut brown wrapper. The medium-bodied Oliva Connecticut Reserve delivers a rich flavor profile in a smooth, silky smoke. It's an excellent cigar with plenty of flavor but not too strong. These cigars bring you a taste of sweetness, toasted almonds and creamy butter.

These cigars are beautifully constructed and offer a profile consistent with the exceptional quality we've come to expect fromOliva. The Oliva Connecticut Reserve range received an epic 91 rating from Cigar Snob magazine in the March/April 2013 issue!

The originality of the "G" Series lies in its Cameroonian Wrapper , a rarity in the industry. This particular wrapper has its own aficionados, those who appreciate smooth, mellow flavours without any bitterness. With a Binder of the "habano" variety and a Nicaraguan filler, we find a cigar of medium strength. A pleasant, well-balanced smoke (the family's savoir-faire) puts this cigar in an interesting price/quality ratio, to say the least.

Oliva grows some of the finest Nicaraguan tobaccos, so it's only natural that they have a Nicaraguan puro. TheOliva Serie O features an all-Nicaraguan tobacco blend, including a sun-grown Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan Habano Binder and Nicaraguan Habano long tripe. If you love Nicaraguan Habano, you've come to the right place, as Oliva has blended Habano leaves from the Jalapa Valley, Condega and Estelí, all major Nicaraguan growing regions.

Oliva chose to blend in this way to follow the Cuban tradition of growing the same tobacco variety in different regions to bring out a unique and complex smoking experience. Full-bodied and flavorful, Serie O is a Nicaraguan puro at a good price.

The "V" Series is certainly the most aromatic of the Oliva ranges. It is aimed at discerning smokers. Its composition incorporates a specially selected and fermented tripe leaf from the Jalapa region, giving this range a very special strength. Sun-grown "habano" wrapper completes the vitola, giving it its characteristic aromatic strength. A classic among connoisseurs of this terroir.

If you're looking for a new and different smoke, look no further. The Oliva Viejo Mundo "old world" cigar range is now available. Even though it's a small cigar, it still has all the flavour and power of that Oliva taste you've come to expect.

The Oliva Viejo Mundo are created in Europe using quality tobaccos Oliva, including a Binder and a tripe from Nicaragua and an Wrapper African from Cameroon. When you light one of these cigars, you'll encounter a smooth, rich experience with notes of earth, cedar, pepper and toasted tobacco. This is a well-designed cigar that produces great smoke in a short time at a machine-made price. "This is a welcome addition to the Oliva range, which has been very popular in the premium European market. The Viejo Mundo is a new standard in machine-made cigars and we look forward to introducing it to other markets across the cigar world."
