Nacional Arriba Native to Buena Fé, Ecuador
78% extra-fine dark chocolate
Nacional Arriba is Ecuador's pride and joy. Called "Arriba" - from above - because it was once shipped down the Babahoyo River to the main port of Guayaquil, this cocoa has very dark beans, visually reminiscent of a Forastero.
Its organoleptic characteristics are as subtle as those of a Criollo. Yet this famous variety is threatened with extinction by the progressive invasion of hyper-productive hybrids.
Committed to preserving Ecuador's historic cocoa, the family-run Hacienda La Zoilita cultivates Nacional Arriba in an environment rich in biodiversity and according to the rules of sustainable agriculture in the heart of the Los Rios province.
