Lighters S.T. Dupont

The history of lighters S.T. Dupont

Welcome to the history of a visionary company now 147 years old, whose extraordinary expertise has given birth to objects of desire, coveted by the elite. Exceptional materials prized for their quality, craftsmen celebrated as artists, and an authentic history and heritage behind every creation.

1880 - Exceptional products

Personalized travel trunks, adorned with their owners' initials and other embellishments, quickly became an essential accessory for Europe's elite. Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie were among the first customers.

1929 - New York

S.T. Dupont joins Louis Cartier in New York, where the Fifth Avenue boutique sells its travel items. An immediate success, they became the benchmark for luxury travel accessories on this new continent.

1934 - Le malletier des rois

With prestigious materials and impeccable craftsmanship, S.T. Dupont has forged a solid reputation as a luxury luggage manufacturer with excellent references. The House's order book is filled with prestigious names, monarchs, top executives, film legends and fashion icons, who embrace Lucien Dupont's motto: "Make it even more beautiful. Make it even more expensive. Make it even more innovative."

1947 - An emblematic style

Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart asked the craftsmen at S.T. Dupont to create a lightweight travel bag for his plane trips and weekends aboard his yacht, the Santana.

1951 - The Duchess of Windsor

In 1951, workers at S.T. Dupont, a loyal supplier to the world's elite, were asked to create a bespoke travel case for the Duchess of Windsor.

1962 - Art objects

Pablo Picasso chose three of his S.T. Dupont lighters and engraved them with lacquer - a Harlequin and a Pierrot for his son and daughter-in-law, and a Faun as a gift for a friend.

2004 - Pop Art at S.T. Dupont

The launch of the Andy Warhol Limited Edition in 2004 brought to life a series of lighters and writing instruments adorned with the pop art iconography that made the painter famous. The Marilyn Monroe lighter is a particularly fitting tribute, since her favorite lighter would have been her gold Ligne 2.

2011 - Styling and collaboration

In 2011, Karl Lagerfeld and S.T. Dupont began a collaboration that enabled the visionary designer to develop several singular lines, placing his creative talent at the service of the workshop's know-how and heritage S.T. Dupont.

2013 - Preserving rare techniques

In 2013, S.T. Dupont was honored to receive the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, a mark of recognition from the French state distinguishing its constant efforts to nurture and preserve the rare techniques and know-how of its master craftsmen.
